Florida Keys Lodging

Florida Keys accommodations for visiting fishing enthusiasts are plentiful, and there are a wide variety of places to stay available suit your particular needs.

For those of you who will be bringing your boat down to the keys, lodging with boat access would be of major importance. The size of your boat is also a consideration – will you need dockage, or just boat ramp access? Either way, there are places from Key Largo to Key West to fit both needs.

If you are bringing the family, boat and RV to the keys, there are nice KOA campgrounds, with boat access, bait store, convenience store, and other amenities. Sugarloaf Key at Mile Marker 20 and Fiesta Key at Mile Marker 70 are two locations you may want to check with for space, boat slip availability, and other services that you may need. Bahia Honda State Park is another great spot that fills up quickly during the busy season. The park has boat ramps in the main marina, boat slips for overnight rental with water, electric, bath and shower facilities. There are furnished cabins that fit up to six people per cabin; however reservations are required up to a year in advance for the winter months, and some holiday weekends. There is also an RV campground that accommodates a wide variety of camping rigs.

Florida Keys motels with beautiful sandy beaches, or a traditional Keys bed and breakfast might be what you are looking for if you are visiting the keys without your boat or any of your fishing equipment. Many of these places, especially the motels and resorts, are happy to assist you in arranging an off shore or back country fishing charter. They will also usually help you arrange, tours, snorkeling and diving expeditions and more. There are also a number of boat rental facilities stocked with tackle, bait and any other accessories you may need, just in case you want to venture out on your own. Two of these well-known resorts include the Cheeca Lodge, at Mile Marker 82, in Islamorada, and Hawks Cay, located at Mile Marker 60.

Now, if you are planning an extended stay of let’s say a week or longer, you might be considering a rental property. Islamorada rentals and rentals in and around Marathon (Mile Marker 50) are very popular with sport fishing fanatics. Check out online fishing forums, newspapers, or local realtors for property owners offering weekly to monthly rentals.  You may find some very reasonable waterfront rentals just outside of these areas in such places like Tavernier, Long Key, or Big Pine Key.

So whether you travel light, or fully equipped, the Florida Keys is ready to make your next fishing vacation an expedition to remember. Don’t forget your camera!
