Charter Fishing

Fishing charters are boats run by a Captain or Charter Company that takes tourists out for what should be a successful and memorable fishing experience. Fishing Boat Charters are abundant in the Florida Keys.  At every bait and tackle shop or marina in the Keys, there are advertisements and information on local charters.  Many marinas have their own charter boats. If you are staying at a resort or hotel, they can usually recommend a good charter.

There are various types of charter fishing trips available, depending on the type of fish you are after, for instance deep sea, trolling, reef fishing or backcountry flats fishing charters. Charters can be expensive (well over $500) if you go it alone, but if you share the cost with a group of friends, or get in on a boat with others looking to share the expense, you can have a great time at a reasonable cost. The cost of a charter should include your fishing license, bait and tackle. You are responsible for bringing your own food and drink.

Many Fishing Charter Companies or Captains have web sites with information concerning their experience, their boats, and pictures of their happy customers holding the latest catch. Information regarding their fishing charter services, schedules, rates and anything additional they might supply will usually be listed on their site.

As for what you should bring along with you – keep it simple. Wear the proper clothing and don’t forget your sunscreen, hat and sunglasses. Watch the weather – you may need to bring rain gear. You may also want to bring along a camera and cooler to take home your catch. If you want to bring your own fishing equipment, you should ask permission before doing so, as space may be very limited.
