Fishing Rod

There are basically two types of fishing rods, cheap fishing rods and expensive fishing rods! Actually, it would be Bait Casting Rods and Spinning Rods, which one you buy depends on the type of reel you are using and the type of fish you are going after.

Bait Casting rods are used for fishing with heavier lures and bait. The reel and line guides are positioned above the rod, and it has a little trigger grip on the bottom just below the reel seat for holding the rod securely. The length of the rod is approximately six to just under eight feet. Bait Casting rods are usually used for saltwater fishing.

Spin Casting rods are very similar to bait casting rods and can accommodate both types of reels. They are designed to hold a spin casting reel, mounted above the handle.

Spinning Rods with longer grips are often used for saltwater fishing, trolling and fishing with live bait. They are made from graphite or fiberglass with a cork or foam handle and average between five and eight feet in length. The reel hangs from the bottom of the reel seat on spinning rods, and they usually have between five and eight guides along the underside of the rod. The eyes gradually decrease in size from the handle on to the tip, and there is no trigger grip.

Surf Rods, which look like big bait casting rods with longer handles. They are between ten and fourteen feet long. They generally take two hands to cast past the breaking surf.

We will end with the Cane poles, which are simple bamboo poles, without a reel, basically used for jigging bait over ponds or from a bridge.
